Change ringing evolved in England in the early part of the 17th century. It is probable that if a ringer from that time could visit our tower today he would have little difficulty in recognising much of our ringing.
Saint Bartholomew, Haslemere dates back to the 13th century. The only remaining part from those early times is the tower.
There were once five bells of mixed origin, but in 1882 Mears and Stainbank installed a ring of six. These were completely recast in 1923 by John Taylor Bell Founders of Loughborough and made into a ring of eight bells. Two lighter bells were added in 1927 creating the ring of ten bells that we have today.
